“Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at will change.”
These powerful words come from renowned self-development author, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, who is best known for his book, The Power of Intention, which has inspired thousands of people the world over to change their lives for the better.
The start of a New Year tends to be a contemplative time when we look back at what we’ve achieved in the year past and set our goals for the year ahead. So, we thought this was the PERFECT time to share with you some of our favorite intention-setting tips, with the hope that it will not only help you get clear on what you really want today but every day from here on in.
What is an intention?
An intention is the starting point of every hope and dream we have, the creative power that drives us towards fulfilling our needs – be that in our work, school, family or business lives. It’s not the actions we take, but the end goal we are hoping to achieve. Everything that happens in the universe begins with intention.
Amongst the hustle and bustle of modern life, it can be very easy to lose sight of our intentions. Every day we get pulled in a million different directions and find ourselves jumping from one situation to the next, without really stopping to consider what it is that we truly want. Setting intentions is an important way to keep your focus on what really matters, and to help steer your life in the direction of true happiness.
How to set your intentions.
1: Get centered. Whether this is through morning yoga, mindfulness or a meditation session, you need to calm your mind and center your attention.
2: Ask yourself a simple question: What is the one thing I want to achieve today that will make me feel happy? It could be your first 30min run, opening up that book you keep meaning to read, booking a mid-year holiday, writing down your new business ideas. Whatever it is, settle your attention on that intention and imagine how great it will feel when you achieve it.
3: After you set an intention, let it go. Don’t get caught worrying about the details of how you can achieve it or why it’s not possible – the intention is much more powerful when it comes from a place of contentment, rather than from a sense of lack or need. Intend for everything to work out as it should, then let go and allow the opportunities and openings to come your way.
4: Do this today, and every day from now on. Trust that the power of your intention, which you have now set into the fertile ground of pure potentiality, will bloom when the season is right.
