High Chia

This weekend we waved farewell for another year to one of our favourite annual traditions, the Royal Ascot. And, to keep those traditional English summer vibes happening, we’re celebrating this month by putting a healthy, modern spin on anther of our favourite traditions… High Tea!

High Tea has been around for hundreds of years, starting initially as meal break for working class men in the 1700s. It was quickly embraced by the upper classes and before long, High Tea became an important event on the social calendars of ladies and gentlemen across Europe. Had at around 4pm, High Tea gave people a chance to tete-a-tete while have something substantial to eat in the afternoon before playing cards or attending the theatre.

It’s also responsible for ushering in another long-time favourite, the sandwich! Believe it or not, the idea of putting pieces of meat and salad ingredients between slices of bread was concocted during a High Tea, by the Earl of Sandwich, no less!

We love all things tradition (and any excuse to eat some delicious treats and have a glass of champagne!) so we’ve taken the best parts of High Tea and given it a modern, healthy twist for High Chia.
